Six Month Smiles is a clear brace that’s designed to straighten your front teeth in around six months. It achieves speedy results because it’s focused on tackling cosmetic problems and straightening the front teeth.
While Six Month Smiles isn’t a brand that we offer at Total Orthodontics, we can offer ‘invisible’ treatments that work in a very similar way. EmPower Clear and Clarity™ ADVANCED, for example, are two types of clear braces that we regularly use to treat complex cases. However, they can also be used to treat just the front teeth in a shorter time frame.
This type of treatment is sometimes referred to as ‘short-term orthodontics’. While for some it can seem like the perfect solution, it’s important to appreciate that there is usually a trade-off for orthodontic treatment that’s completed in just six months. So to help you make an educated decision about your treatment, here are some pros and cons for Six Month Smiles, which also apply to other types of ‘short-term’ orthodontic treatment.
The pros of Six Month Smiles
QUICKER TREATMENT
The biggest advantage of Six Month Smiles is that treatment takes around six months. Comprehensive orthodontic treatment – which straightens all of your teeth and affects the way they bite together – takes around 12 to 18 months. Six Month Smiles treatment isn’t quicker because it’s moving your teeth faster; it’s quicker because it’s only straightening your front teeth.
DISCREET BRACKETS
Six Month Smiles has clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires, which blend inconspicuously with your teeth. Clear braces are a popular choice among our patients and they can be used for both short-term and comprehensive orthodontic treatment. We don’t tend to use tooth-coloured wires, however, as we’ve found they aren’t as efficient at moving teeth.
AFFORDABLE TREATMENT
The speed of Six Month Smiles is usually reflected in its price, and in most cases, it costs less than comprehensive orthodontic treatment. This might reflect the cost of your brace, the length of your treatment, or even the skill and experience of your clinician.
